2023 MW Z4 Roadster Next-Gen, Redesign, Pricing

2023 BMW Z4 Roadster Next-Gen, Redesign, PricingThe BMW Z4 fulfills all your expectations, given the recognizable roundel on its nose. But does it become a Jack of all trades and master of none when the range is topped by the outstanding 382-horsepower 3.0-liter turbo inline-six that can propel the M40i model to 60 mph in under four seconds? The Z4 follows the BMW criteria as a premium brand with a sports bent. Its interior is upscale enough to compete with rivals like the Audi TT Roadster and the retired Mercedes-Benz SLC, yet it drives well enough for a potential Porsche 718 Boxster buyer to give it a second thought. On the negative side, the Z4’s steering feel is noticeably inferior to its Boxster counterpart, which is more of a problem in this market segment than others. Even though it hasn’t completely transformed the market, the Z4 is still a speedy, energetic, and luxurious roadster that BMW fans will like.

The BMW Z4 Roadster for 2023 is primarily a carryover from the previous year, but specific amenities have been removed. Oddly, ambient lighting is no longer an essential feature, and wireless charging is no longer an option. In other developments, the driving assistance package is no longer included in the convenience or premium packages and may now be acquired individually.

2023 MW Z4 Roadster Next-Gen Redesign

The design of the most recent Z4 Roadster can be challenging to get used to, despite having enough road presence. The conventional kidney grille is vast and reminiscent of the classic BMW Z8. It is undoubtedly more appealing than the excessively extended grille featured on the most recent 4 Series Coupe. The Z4’s small rump and well-integrated taillights provide an excellent rear three-quarter perspective, which may be its most appealing feature. The basic model has 18-inch alloy wheels, satin aluminum exterior trim, LED daytime running lights, and LED headlights. Both models have a black soft-top roof, but the M40i has additional aerodynamic equipment, Shadowline exterior trim, and 18-inch M double-spoke wheels. Both versions feature dual exhaust outlets, but the M40i also has the standard M Sport kit, which is more aggressively fashioned.

Only Alpine White is given as standard on the basic Z4 and is available in a choice of seven other colors. Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver, Mineral White, Mediterranean Blue, Misano Blue, and San Francisco Red are six metallics costing $550. Although we adore the Misano Blue, it costs $1,500 more if the M Sport option is included. Mineral White and Mediterranean Blue are no longer available in the Z4 M40i’s color options, but it does have the great Frozen Grey II Metallic, which will cost you an extra $3,600.

Interior

The Z4 boasts a very high-quality cabin, much like other modern BMWs. In this class, it could even have the most excellent interior. It has high-end materials, superb panel fitting, and well-placed management. Large bolsters on its seats keep you firmly in place as you appreciate the Z4’s dynamism. Even for people taller than six feet, there is more space inside than you may anticipate. Its textile roof is well insulated and firmly sealed. The BMW’s interior is remarkably silent with the top up, with so little wind or road noise that it nearly appears like a Grand Touring coupe. It unfolds in a matter of seconds at the touch of a button. When the top is down, and the vehicle is moving quickly, a wind blocker is usually used to minimize wind buffeting.

The storage space inside is also pretty roomy. The Z4’s interior has various storage compartments, including one in the center console and one with a felt interior to the left of the steering wheel. Furthermore, there are two sizable cupholders up front and a netted shelf behind the seats. The Z4’s trunk only has ten cubic feet of space, but it can fit two people’s worth of stuff for a short weekend road trip. Standard features include a vast 10.3-inch touchscreen, navigation, and free Apple CarPlay integration; Android Auto functionality is not offered. The most recent performance of BMW’s iDrive system has clear visuals and is simple to operate. The Z4’s console’s knob, buttons, and voice commands may be used to control the machine intuitively. Although SiriusXM satellite radio costs extra, a USB connector and Bluetooth streaming music are included.

Engine

Both engine options can vigorously move the tiny drop-body, as we discovered in our 2023 BMW Z4 review, and each has a distinct personality. The basic sDrive30i has an eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, launch control, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder machine that generates 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a powerful 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft is used in the sDrive M40i. Additionally, this variant comes with an M sport differential.

The M40i has tremendous passing power and an even better sound. The basic engine sounds more excellent than the four-cylinder engines in less expensive models of the Porsche Boxster and pulls forcefully from low down in the rpm range due to its high torque. It matches incredibly well with the eight-speed gearbox, which quickly and smoothly shifts through its gears, making it one of the finest in the business. The Z4 may also be enjoyed at slower speeds while in Comfort mode.

2023 MW Z4 Roadster Next-Gen release date and price

For 2023, the US basic model BMW Z4 has received a slight $200 price hike, but the six-cylinder model will continue to have the exact starting MSRP. Accordingly, the sDrive30i and M40i versions of the BMW Z4 will cost $49,900 and $63,700, respectively. These prices do not include the $995 destination fee or the many extras that can add hundreds of dollars to the final price of a BMW Z4.
