2024 BMW 4 Series Convertible Redesign, Release Date, Specs – You may have observed that the market for small, luxurious convertibles with seating for four is tiny and overwhelmingly German. BMW’s 4 Series Convertible, one of the most prestigious luxury automobiles in the world, has dominated the U.S. market for decades. The 4er convertible, now in its second generation, has a distinguished pedigree that extends back to the E30 of the late ’80s. Undoubtedly, Munich’s wealth of experience in this field is unparalleled. One only needs to spend a short time behind the 2024 4 Series Convertible wheel to realize that it is a superb vehicle. The BMW Convertible, priced between $55,500 and $68,250, competes with the attractive but older Mercedes-Benz C-Class Convertible and the stylish Audi A5 Convertible. The new BMW is the most sporty of the three, thanks to its CLAR platform and available powerful engines.

Fortunately, the 2024 BMW 4-series shares little with the 3-series sedan upon which it is built in terms of the driving experience, which is a significant plus for the new model. The 4-series looks very different from the 4-door 3-series because of its two-door body layout and massive twin-kidney grille. The 4-series is not as practical as the 3-series, as the back seat is tight and the trunk is not as significant. Those who care, though, can select the 3-series sedan. Both 4-Series models are as sleek, fast, and sophisticated as one would hope from a BMW. The entry-level 430i model has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine but lacks the brand’s customary crisp handling. For extra excitement, go for the M440i, which comes with a rowdy turbocharged inline-six, though even its off-road prowess falls short of our lofty expectations. For those interested in a coupe with four doors, BMW offers the 4-series Gran Coupe.

2024 BMW 4 Series Convertible Redesign
BMW has made a few changes to the 4 Series convertible for 2024 because it is still a new model. There has been no change to the aesthetics or performance of either engine. The company has made some minor adjustments despite this. M Sport brakes with blue or red calipers have been added to the a la carte Shadowline package, while the contentious Gesture Control feature has been taken out of the Premium Package.

Although the head-up display is currently reserved for the M440i only, the SensaTec leatherette dashboard is still available for all trim levels. Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight are no longer a standalone option. Finally, Skyscraper Grey metallic has been added to the color selection, and the Parking Assistance Package has been returned. Its replacement of the pleasantly shiny bluestone color is a significant loss.
Interior
These vehicles need to be spacious, but not so much so that you can’t see out the window, which is unlikely in a convertible. The 4 Series, however, manages to pull off this balancing act with ease, thanks to its dashboard’s design, which gives the impression of both width and concentration on the driver. The front seats of this four-seater include power adjustments, and the seat in front of the driver also has memory settings. The M440i’s power lumbar support aids in this regard. Thanks to its higher profile, the new 4 Series convertible offers more headroom than the 4 Series coupe with the top-up. Two people of average height would be able to sit comfortably due to the extra 0.9 inches of headroom in the back. It’s nice and cozy inside, but taller people may still have trouble getting in and out when the roof is up.

Which way do we even start? LED headlights with automatic high beams and taillights are standard on all 4 Series models, as are stop/start, dynamic cruise control, tire pressure monitoring, and automatic LED headlights. Parallel parking sensors, lane departure warnings, and active blind-spot recognition are all standard. BMW offers automatically retractable roll bars for those concerned about the safety of a cloth roof in a rollover. The Cabrio’s safety features include rain-sensing wipers, power-folding heated side mirrors, auto-dimming rearview and driver-side mirrors, collision avoidance technology, and automated emergency braking in the event of a frontal impact.

The M440i adds keyless entry and power lumbar support for the front seats, while all trim levels receive a wind deflector, power front seats with driver-side memory, and rear air vent shades as standard equipment. Live Cockpit Pro, which features a 12.3-inch display, is standard on all vehicles. A head-up show, heated front seats, BMW’s answer to Merc’s Airscarf neck warmers, and a heated steering wheel are all available for an additional cost.
Engine
In the 4-series, you may choose between the same two powerful motors available in the 3-series. The 430i lineup features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 255 horsepower. The M440i is propelled by a 3.0-liter inline-six engine that is turbocharged and, with the help of a 48-volt hybrid system, generates 382 horsepower. With its revised suspension, more aggressive steering calibration, broader rear way, and lower center of gravity, the 4-series delivers a sportier driving experience than the 3-series sedan. However, the M440i coupe’s superb inline-six engine won us over more than its mediocre driving dynamics. We found the all-wheel-drive 430i xDrive to have adequate power from its turbocharged four-cylinder, but we shared a common gripe about the car’s overly supple ride. The Bimmer’s remote steering and the compliant ride provided a different satisfaction than the M340i sedan, but the brakes behaved nicely in our 70-to-zero-mph (149-foot) test. We found the all-wheel-drive 430i xDrive to have adequate power from its turbocharged four-cylinder, but we shared a common gripe about the car’s overly supple ride.

The EPA predicts that the 430i coupe’s four-cylinder engine will achieve 26 mpg in the metropolis and 34 mpg on the interstate. When all-wheel drive is included, the numbers drop to 24 and 33 mpg. The M440i’s six-cylinder engine returns 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the interstate. We have yet to put the M440i through our 200-mile, 75 mph highway fuel-economy test, but the 430i xDrive achieved an impressive 34 mpg. Check the EPA’s website for specifics on the 4-series’ gas mileage.
