2024 BMW 5 Series Plug-In Hybrid Redesign, Cost – Few vehicles portray social prestige and professional accomplishment more effectively than stylish, sleek, expensive sedans. But the 2024 BMW 5 Series Hybrid also proclaims one’s passionate concern for the environment and its importance. The 5 Series Hybrid is just as fun to drive and quick as any other BMW. Still, its 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine, integrated electric motor, and 12-kWh battery make it much more fuel-efficient.
The midsize car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds thanks to the engine’s combined 288 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Has BMW adequately prepared its sporty, eco-warrior for the US market, given that Mercedes-Benz plans to launch its plug-in hybrid version of the enduringly popular E-Class sedan and the Volvo S90 Hybrid and Lexus ES Hybrid have already been available?

The exterior of 2024 5 Series is mainly unchanged from the prior year, preserving its lovely design. A few small blue details set the 530e apart from its non-electric siblings, but the charging port on the left front fender is the most crucial difference. Standard features include all-season run-flat tires, adaptive LED headlights with daytime running lights, an expansive sunroof, gloss black accents, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
With dimensions of 194.6 inches in length, 73.5 inches in width, and 52.8 inches in height, the 530e, and 530e xDrive are long and slender. The 530e is a little heavier than its non-hybrid counterparts at 4,264 pounds. However, because it includes an AWD system, the xDrive is more severe and weighs an extra 105 pounds, and both hybrid models add around 600 pounds to a comparable non-hybrid model. The wheelbase of the 5 Series is 117.1 inches below the surface, which allows for the renowned interior space.

Interior
Thanks to its high-end comforts and stylish design, the 5-series cockpit is an intelligent space. It is a vast advance over the somewhat drab cabin of its predecessor. It is loaded with technology and offers enough space for backseat passengers. We have experience with the optional 20-way multi-contour front seats, which are wonderfully cozy and flexible in every aspect. The ordinary seats can still be adjusted in 16 ways, despite possibly not being as comfortable. The BMW’s roomy trunk can accommodate six carry-on bags, comparable to what its competitors provide. The cottage, however, is lacking in cubbies and storage areas. The plug-in hybrid 530e has four fewer cubic feet of trunk space and two fewer carry-on bags than non-hybrid models due to the barrage pack, but at least it still has foldable back seats, unlike many other hybrids.
Every model in the 5-series comes equipped with a sizable 12.3-inch high-resolution center display. Every vehicle in the 5-series includes a digital gauge display that the driver can personalize to show different information. You may control it using the BMW iDrive rotary knob, tapping the screen, or uttering specific voice commands. If you select BMW’s Gesture Control option, you can also control the system using hand gestures. We considered this to be more of a novelty than anything else. SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth audio, a USB port, and navigation are included in the tech package.

Engine
Despite being capable drivers, all of the 5-series models lack the driving energy we have come to expect from BMW. The 530e’s engine compartment houses a 12-kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack, an electric motor, and a twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine. Depending on the model, the device is connected to an 8-speed Sport automatic gearbox that distributes output to either an all-wheel drivetrain or a rear-wheel drivetrain (530e sDrive or 530e xDrive). Even the M550i, designed to be fast, has soft steering, and the ride seems to be set up more for comfort than real driving fun. In our tests, the M550i reached 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds, outperforming the Mercedes-AMG E53 and Audi S6 in our acceleration runs.
According to the EPA, the four-cylinder 530i should achieve up to 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The six-cylinder 540i may achieve up to 25 mpg in the city and on the road. These are reduced to 17 cities and 25 highway mpg by the M550i’s more powerful V-8. All three vehicles we tested in real-world conditions surpassed expectations; the 530e achieved 34 mpg, while the 540i and M550i each recorded 31 mpg and 28 mpg. For more information on the fuel efficiency of the 5-series, go to the EPA website.
2024 BMW 5 Series Plug-In Hybrid price and release date
The electric 530e costs $55,550, which isn’t much more than the 530i; the AWD xDrive model is $57,850. The M550i will cost you $76,800 if you want all that V8 power. Even with the M5’s $103,700 price tag, that is still a fantastic offer. Taxes, license fees, and a $995 destination fee are not included in these prices, which are MSRP.
