2024 BMW 5 Series Redesign, Specs, Release Date

2024 BMW 5 Series Redesign, Specs, Release DateEven though it faces stiff competition from the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Audi A6, the BMW 5 Series Sedan remains one of the most sporty executive sedans on the market. Furthermore, there is a 5 Series for any budget, with prices ranging from $54,000 to over $80,000. The standard four-cylinder engine in the car generates 248 horsepower, but the plug-in hybrid option adds another 40 horsepower, making it the quickest choice to 60 miles per hour. However, if the mid-range 540i models fail to excite you, the top-of-the-line M550i can run the benchmark quarter-mile in 3.6 seconds at 523 horsepower. While its performance is certainly noteworthy, the sedan’s well-appointed and elegant interior suggests that its designers focus more on providing opulent comfort than hooligan antics these days. Plus, U.S. safety regulators give it their highest possible rating. Is BMW taking the right approach with this more sensible way to drive, or will their customers go elsewhere for excitement?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series Sedan includes a few updates. However, the M550i xDrive now comes standard with a power rear sunshade and a more comprehensive selection of exterior colors thanks to the introduction of Arctic Race Blue, Skyscraper Grey, and Aventurin Red. Bluestone Metallic and Bernina Grey Amber Effect have been taken off the market. The Premium Package now includes remote engine start for the 530i and 540i, although gesture control has been eliminated from both vehicles. While the M550i xDrive is the sole model with access to the Parking Assistance Package, the lower-tier trims now have access to the Executive Package once again. For the 530, 530e, and 540i, the Shadowline Package includes M Sport Brakes with red or blue calipers and a rear spoiler.

2024 BMW 5 Series Redesign

The interior and exterior of the 2021 BMW 5 Series were completely redesigned, and new technologies were added. It is anticipated that the 2024 model will have the same refined aesthetic as the 2021 model. LED taillights and maybe LED headlights in two hockey-stick designs are still being finalized. Also new for the 5 Series in 2024 is a redesigned front grille. You can choose whether or not you think the grille looks good, as it has an assertive appearance.

The typical dimensions of this German executive vehicle are 195.8 inches in length, 73.5 inches in width, and 58.2 inches in height. While the M550i stands at 57.8 inches, the plug-in hybrid variant measures a loftier 58.4 inches. The M550i’s length of 196 inches is a result of the M-themed exterior trim and other additions. The standard wheelbase for all of these vehicles is 117.

Alpine White and Jet Black are the only two exterior paint colors available at no extra cost beyond what is already included in the base model. For the latter, you’ll need to shell out an additional $3,050 for the M Sport package. Black Sapphire, Dark Graphite, Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Bluestone, Bernina Grey Amber Effect, and Carbon Black are the available metallics for an extra $550.

Although the M550i doesn’t provide Mineral White or Jet Black, we do offer the metallic color scheme at no extra cost. Three premium colors (Tanzanite Blue II metallic, Aventurin Red Metallic, and Alvite Grey Metallic) are also available for an additional $1,950 each. That’s why the Tanzanite Blue is our favorite.

Interior

The cabins of today’s high-end automobiles are all starting to look the same, and that’s a concern. The 2024 BMW is no exception; the cabin is a clinical showcase of efficient design, intelligent ergonomics, and comfort, with its clean lines and large screens. Most people will be satisfied with how well the space functions, how current it appears, and how sophisticated it feels. We like that the front seats can be adjusted electrically and are really comfy. It is easy for the driver to see out and breathe inside. A more distinctive BMW interior vibe would be welcome, as this one lacks any wow factor.

Each 5 Series model, from the entry-level 528i to the flagship M550i, offers room for up to five passengers. There are motorized front sport seats with manual headrests and thigh support in the base trim, a memory system for the driver’s seat and outside mirror settings. Multi-contour front seats with added thigh and shoulder support are standard on the M550i.

Engine

The base 530i is powered by a 248-horsepower inline-four that is peppy and eager, and it moves the 5 Series quickly in the city and on the highway. It just takes 6 seconds to go from 0-60 mph. The 530e is not dissimilar, boasting a plug-in hybrid version of the same 288-horsepower engine. The 540i is the midpoint of the series and features a 335-horsepower inline-six engine. The M550i and the M5 are the top of the series. The M550i’s V8 produces 523 horsepower, while the M5’s is revved up to pay 600 to 627. A lot of muscle, and it shows. A snarling exhaust note accompanies the rapid acceleration of these cars. As little as 2.9 seconds is needed to reach 60 mph. In addition, the eight-speed automatic transmissions that come standard with each engine make for swift and seamless gear changes.

As far as performance goes, the BMW M5 is up there with the best. It steers with surprising dexterity and stability along winding roads for a vehicle of its size, and it clings tenaciously to the road when accelerating out of curves. The suspension masterfully controls body lean through corners while absorbing bumps and dips in the street with little to no discomfort, and the steering is quick and precise. However, the beauty of the 5 Series lineup is that even the most affordable variants are fun to drive. The 530i, 530e, and 540i all feature rear-wheel drive as standard equipment. The M550i and M5 come standard with xDrive all-wheel drive, which is optional on the other trim levels.

2024 BMW 5 Series Release Date and Price

The base price of a 530i Sedan is $54,200, while the AWD xDrive model will set you back $56,500. The base 540i starts at $59,950 and rises to $62,250 for the xDrive version with its more potentsix-cylinder engine.

The new and improved BMW 5 Series will hit the market in June of 2023 and will be an all-new model for 2024. The base price of a 530e with electric propulsion is $55,550, while the AWD xDrive model goes for $57,850. The M550i’s price of $76,800 represents the cost of gaining access to all of that V8 power. Compared to the MSRP of the M5, that is still a steal. These prices are suggested retail prices and do not include any additional fees or taxes, as well as a $995 destination charge.
