2024 BMW i7 Electric Luxury Sedan, Specs, Release Date – Where Mercedes-Benz goes, archrival BMW follows, and vice versa. Now that Mercedes has presented its electric S-class, the EQS, it should be no surprise that BMW is releasing an all-electric flagship luxury sedan called the i7. The electric BMW was developed alongside the next-generation 7-Series and offered the same level of luxury as the gasoline-powered version. The i7 has two electric motors and a large battery pack to compete with the EQS and other luxury electric sedans, such as the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. The 2024 BMW i7’s design is more subdued than the recently unveiled XM SUV concept. However, it still takes risks, particularly with its front-end design, which features enormous grille intakes and split-element headlamps. The i7 is designed for people who want luxury transportation that is whisper quiet and for people who want to relax in the back while being driven. It does this by combining several technological features with high-quality materials.
When it runs on sale in the fall of 2023, the 2024 i7 will serve as the flagship of BMW’s expanding I subbrand of electric vehicles. BMW will initially offer only the all-wheel-drive xDrive60 version of the i7, but a more sporty M-Sport model is anticipated in the future. Similar to the gasoline-powered 7-Series, the i7 is a limousine-like luxury sedan that can be equipped with an optional Executive Lounge package to pamper rear-seat passengers. This package is recommended because it adds many features that make it worth the price, such as comfortable seats in the back that can recline and massage you.

Inheriting a design language from the 2024 BMW X7, the i7 features split headlights with LED DRLs comprising 14 LEDs during daytime operation and 22 LEDs at night, and a lower, blacked-out cluster housing low- and high-beam LED headlights. Externally, the BMW i7 appears identical to the 7 Series, i.e., it is large, bold, and heavily reliant on two characteristics to define its personality: surfacing and a face that will dominate every discussion about the new seven families for the next five years. The grille is prominent but not as annoying as those on other BMWs. However, the lit area around the grille is very irritating.
Another Rolls-Royce-inspired feature is the debut of two-tone paint options on the BMW 7. Under the BMW Individual banner, the roof is available in one of two colors, while the lower half of the vehicle is available in five hues. Elegantly, a pinstripe separates these two zones. Dark Graphite, Sparkling Copper, and Space Silver are model-exclusive metallic color options for the BMW i7, in extra to 11 standard colors (one non-metallic and ten metallic) shared with the standard 7 Series. With the M Sport Professional Package, you can add a rear spoiler, dark Shadowline trim instead of lights, and blue brake calipers for more customization.
To assert its superiority over rivals, the BMW i7 has significantly larger dimensions than the previous 7 Series. The i7 now measures 5.1 inches in length, 1.9 inches in width, and 2 inches in height, making it a true full-size luxury sedan. It has a total length of 212.2 inches, a width of 76.8 inches, and a height of 70.8 inches. The wheelbase is now 126.6 inches long, two-tenths of an inch longer than the previous 7. Due to the increase in size and addition of a battery pack, the i7 will not be able to escape with a curb weight of fewer than 5,500 pounds.
Since they were co-developed, the 2024 BMW i7 Electric Luxury Sedan shares the same spacious, opulent, and upscale interior atmosphere as the gasoline-powered 7-Series. In addition to luxurious amenities, the i7 offers many high-tech convenience features that put it on par with Mercedes-Benz’s EQS and Tesla’s Model S. There is ample space in both the front and rear seats, and the entire interior is lined with premium materials. The Executive Lounge package includes power-adjustable reclining seats, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and extra-cushioned headrests for rear-seat passengers. The rear-seat pass-through feature will come in handy if transporting longer items.
The iX SUV provides the i7 with its digital dashboard, which consists of a large floating digital gauge and infotainment displays. Beneath a single pane of glass, the two shows provide a clear view of driving information and entertainment features. The optional rear-seat entertainment system has a 31.3-inch screen that drops down and can connect to streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube through the car’s 5G cellular connection.
The BMW i7 is engineless. Because it is an electric variant of the standard 7 Series sedan, instead, it contains a 4,3-inch-tall, high-voltage battery pack on the vehicle’s floor and two electric motors for permanent all-wheel drive. The engine on the front axle generates 255 horsepower, while the rear axle produces 308 horsepower. The claimed system outputs are 536 horsepower and 549 lb-ft of torque. Zero to sixty in 4.5 seconds, which is faster than any chauffeur-driven luxury sedan needs to be with an electronically limited top speed of 149 mph,
In addition to a double-wishbone front suspension and a five-link rear suspension, the i7’s performance is enhanced by custom motor mounts for its unique powertrain. Air suspension, independent on the front and rear axles, has electronically controlled dampers and adjustable ride height, and standard rear-axle steering at angles of up to 3.5 degrees (the Mercedes EQS has up to 4.5 degrees average and 10 degrees optional) aids maneuverability and stability, reducing the turning circle by 2.5 feet. Active roll stabilization and a new stability control system have been added to BMW’s plans to make them more technologically advanced. These systems respond faster and more times per second than older systems, so they don’t have to step in as often but do a better job.
The battery has a capacity of 101,7 kWh, giving the electric sedan a range of 300 miles on the EPA cycle (verification pending). How distant it can travel on a single charge and how long it takes to recharge are the most critical specifications for most EV fans (and haters). BMW has reworked the charging software for the highest efficiency, controlling the battery’s temperature regulation to reduce charge times by applying lessons learned from the iX and i4 charging systems. Standard regenerative braking increases resistance automatically when coming up to a red light or going down a hill, regardless of whether the GPS has been programmed or not. A coasting function on the open road saves even more gas. The cloud-based GPS even considers state-of-charge when planning routes to ensure EA stations are available along the way. The i7 xDrive60 can charge at 11 kW on an AC system and 195 kW on a DC system. Eighty miles of range can be recovered in 10 minutes using the latter. Not yet have equivalent MPG figures been provided.
