2024 BMW M5 Sedan Specs, Redesign, Price – Some automobiles have spacious interiors, while others provide thrilling drives. The BMW M5 is sharing its platform with the standard 5-series but receiving a transplant of the M performance division’s engine and suspension. A magnificent 600-horsepower twin-turbo V-8 is housed under the hood, and it is mated to an eight-speed automated transmission that sends power to all four wheels. The Competition package is available as an upgrade, adding 17 more horsepower, a more soulful exhaust, a firmer suspension, and unique Competition trim. In our testing, that variant accelerated to 60 mph in under 2.8 seconds. The M5 is a luxury sedan that can handle mountain hairpins, autobahn blasts, and daily living without a sweat. The Bimmer’s sleek styling isn’t balanced by a thundering exhaust like the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, but the Bimmer’s excellent comfort and refinement place it among the finest in the luxury sports sedan market.
Subtle adjustments to the 2024 BMW M5’s standard features come as demand for the limited-run 627-horsepower BMW M5 CS of 2018 dries out. BMW no longer sells the M5 Competition as a stand-alone model but as an upgrade via a separate equipment package. New exterior paint colors include San Remo Green metallic and Skyscraper Grey metallic. The Brand metallic paint colors Hatch Grey, Snapper Rocks Blue, Motegi Red, Donington Grey, Bluestone, and Frozen Bluestone have been phased out. Individual Smoke White/Black Full Merino Leather and Tartufo Ful Merino Leather are now provided as interior upholstery choices. At the same time, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System is no longer a possible upgrade.
2024 BMW M5 Sedan Redesign
The ideal aesthetic for an M5 is assertive but subtle. It’s likely to go unnoticed by environmentalists but would be easy to identify for automotive enthusiasts. BMW has previously failed to strike this delicate balance. It was too loud and obnoxious in the E60, and the F90 before the redesign looked sad and tired, as if a diesel engine powered it. The revised version of 2021 hits all the right notes. Its front fascia is bright and cheery with LED headlights, daytime running lights, and larger kidneys (not X7 enormous, thank god). Rear LED lights are smaller and smoked, and the bumper and diffuser have been redesigned to have more angular lines. The distinctive quad exhausts are still there. M double-spoke, bi-color wheels measure 19 inches on the standard model and 20 inches on the Competition. While adding a sunroof won’t cost you anything, it will remove the bare carbon-fiber roof. The Competition Pack and the bigger wheels include M Shadowline lighting, extended Shadowline trim, and black chrome trim on the tailpipes.
Did you know that the current generation 5 Series is almost the same size as the E38 7 Series and falls just under two inches short of the Bang & Olufsen E65 model in terms of length? It’s a vast automobile, measuring 196.4 inches in length and riding on a wheelbase of 117.4 inches. Without the mirrors, its width is 74.9 inches; with them, it’s 83.7 inches. The regular M5 is 58 inches tall, while the 57.8-inch-tall M5 Competition comes in slightly lower. The curb weight of 4,345 pounds is the most surprising number on the datasheet. The heaviest production E65 7 Series weighed in at 4,497 pounds thanks to its massive V12 engine.
Alpine White is the only non-metallic color that will not cost you more. There are eight metal finishes to choose from, ranging from subtle to “look at me; I need attention.” The more stately and free metallic choices are Black Sapphire, Dark Graphite, and the all-new Skyscraper Grey for 2024. Marina Bay Blue and San Remo Green, a brand-new shade, are on the edgier side. Tanzanite Blue II, Aventurin Red, and Alvite Grey are all available for $1,950. We believe that 20-inch black alloy wheels and red or blue brake calipers complement the San Remo Green. Several popular colors and finishes have been taken off the market, including Hatch Grey, Donington Grey, Snapper Rocks Blue, Motegi Red, and the matte Frozen Bluestone.
Elegant leather upholstery and supportive sports seats are standard in the M5. BMW has yet to go the all-touchscreen route like many competitors, so you can easily adjust the air conditioning or the radio (using physical buttons) while driving. The M5 has many convenient options, including a power-adjustable steering column, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and customizable ambient interior lighting. For additional cash, BMW provides features like front-ventilated massage seats, heated rear seats, and four-zone automatic temperature control. The M5 has practical compartments inside the interior, and its trunk was large enough to accommodate six standard suitcases during our tests.
BMW’s latest iDrive infotainment system is operated by a 12.3-inch touchscreen that sits atop the M5’s dashboard. The driver can adjust the settings with a rotary knob on the center console. Wi-Fi hotspots and smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features. In addition, all trim levels have wireless device charging and a 16-speaker, 600-watt Harman/Kardon sound system.
The 2024 BMW M5 Sedan comes standard with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, while the M5 Competition has the same engine. Both cars have 553 lb-ft of torque, but the Comp has a larger torque band of 170 rpm. The base M5 produces 600 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, while the M5 Comp produces 617 horsepower at the same speed. It’s a sin to conceal such a technologically advanced powerplant behind a cheap piece of carbon fiber. If you take it out of the equation, you’ll have a whole day to investigate how BMW eliminated practically all turbo lag. The M5’s cross-bank exhaust manifolds shorten the path the exhaust gases must travel to reach the turbochargers. Cooling the gases that occur along the way also contributes to the increased output. The M5’s engine has been upgraded with a track-ready transmission oil cooler and a dedicated oil cooler for the engine oil.
Surprisingly, it’s paired with an eight-speed ZF transmission. Dual-clutch transmissions, like the seven-speed in the previous generation of M5, were developed to speed up the shifting process. ZF’s eight-speed transmission offers shift times that are nearly as rapid. On the other hand, some road testers long for the days when shifting gears caused a sharp jolt to the head. We may be old-fashioned, but we appreciate not getting kicked in the back as we move from second to third gear. The transmission can be driven in one of three modes: eco, Sport, or Track, just like the engine, suspension, and AWD system. Efficient, in particular, delivers on its promise of hassle-free, lightning-fast gear changes, as do the other options. When set to Sport, the transmission will hold onto a gear so that the torque band is available instantly, while when set to Track (available only with the Competition option), the dial goes all the way to 11. Even in the most aggressive setting, the gearbox retains a trace of that kick feedback typical of dual-clutch transmissions. The new BMW M3/M4 is better off without the dual-clutch message because they use eight-speed automatic information instead.
The M5 won’t win any awards for environmental friendliness in the United States, but it’s about average for the class. The EPA estimates that the combined fuel economy for the M5 and M5 Competition will be 17 mpg. According to the EPA, the RS6 Avant and RS7, in 2024, are predicted to achieve 14/21/17 mpg on the highway. BMWs have a standard 20.1, giving you 341 miles of driving range.
2024 BMW M5 Release Date and Price
The BMW M5 is back for 2024 as a brand-new model that will hit the market in June of that year. The suggested retail price of the base M5 is $109,900.
