2024 BMW X1 M35i xDrive Redesign, Specs, Price – Although it is BMW’s smallest SUV, the 2024 X1 is anything but basic. The X1, with its agile driving characteristics and roomy cabin, is virtually a viable replacement for BMW’s missing 3-series station wagon in the United States. The base model and the sportier M35i come standard with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed automated transmission, while the base model’s powerplant is a 241-horsepower turbo four. BMW’s newest iDrive nine infotainment system, a curved glass display, and Bluetooth connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto all contribute to the cabin’s cutting-edge feel. There are two rows of seats, and while both are very roomy for the small SUV class, the Mercedes-Benz GLB class is much roomier and provides a third row of seats as an option. The Benz needs the BMW’s driving excitement, though.
The X1 lineup gets a lot more exciting in 2024 with the addition of the M35i xDrive, which boasts a 312-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, an adaptive suspension system, and high-performance brakes. The M35i comes standard with unique 19-inch wheels and all-season tires, while 20-inch wheels with summer tires are available as an upgrade. BMW’s smallest SUV, the X1, will be completely redesigned for 2023. BMW’s entry-level SUV is now more attractive, technologically advanced, and free of the dull design that has plagued it for years—the new M35i model for 2024 promises to be even more exciting. BMW has given its smallest crossover an M badge, but the alterations go beyond the exterior.
However, the new X1 M35i for 2024 features several visual changes that help it stand out from the standard X1. The most obvious clues are the M-specific two-bar kidney grille and the formerly optional M Sport front bumper. We won’t grumble about the four exhaust pipes in the back, a feature usually reserved for full-on M vehicles. Other upgrades to performance include new, stylish 19-inch wheels, adaptive suspension as standard, and front and rear M-compound brakes measuring 15.2 and 13 inches, respectively.
An aggressive design with more oversized air intakes in the front fascia, conspicuous side skirt extensions, a model-specific roof spoiler, and a rear apron with a new diffuser, including quad exhaust pipes, complement the top-of-the-line X1’s power and performance.
Interior And Tech
A floating center console and an all-digital instrument cluster are among the 2024 BMW X1 M35i xDrive’s innovative interior design characteristics. The interior is stuffed with stylish touches like textured speaker grilles and open-pore Eucalyptus wood trim (if equipped). All versions have standard automatic climate control for two zones, interior illumination, and a power liftgate. Options include a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, and a heated steering wheel.
The M35i’s cabin has been updated like the cabins of BMW’s other performance-oriented M models. The new M Performance seats are the most notable upgrade. They appear inspired by the carbon-fiber buckets in more extreme vehicles like the M5 CS and M4 CSL, with features like severe side bolstering and LED M emblems near the headrest. Darker interior trim pieces, a black headliner, M doorsills, and M-specific pedals are just a few of the M-specific touches found throughout the cabin.
The newest interior design philosophy from BMW is also displayed in the BMW X1. The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.7-inch touchscreen share a single glass housing slanted to face the driver. The middle stack has also been streamlined, with the multiple layers of climate and preset buttons removed. Instead, these features can be found in the infotainment system’s various menus and submenus. The all-electric iX and the top-of-the-line 7 Series sedan both include this system. BMW’s quick-choose feature, which enlarges icons and makes them easier to select on the go, has been added to the new M35i model.
The X1 also differs from the iX and 7 Series in that it does not feature an iDrive controller knob. This has been a standard element of BMW infotainment systems for over 20 years, but it has been omitted in the X1, forcing users to rely on the touchscreen or the system’s powerful voice commands. The system is quick to respond and has many valuable features, but the menus can be challenging to navigate and force you to take your eyes off the road for too long. BMW recommends utilizing voice commands, and although they do function, they feel like a crutch for a less-than-ideal design. The iDrive controller’s absence creates more space in the middle console, making the X1 feel roomier and providing more cubby space than its predecessor.
The BMW X1 can be equipped with a wide variety of cutting-edge features. The X1 allows for wireless smartphone communication with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it comes standard with blind-spot monitoring that includes a safe exit warning if you open a door into oncoming traffic. The ability to drive hands-free in certain conditions and an augmented reality display for the navigation system are also notable features.
The standard 2024 BMW X1 M35i xDrive is driven by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 241 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The M35i has the same engine as the 335i, but it has been upgraded to produce 312 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque instead. A more robust crankshaft and modifications to the camshaft timing, fuel injection, ignition, and exhaust gas routing are all to blame for the power gain.
A seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission transfers power from the engine to all four axles. BMW claims their updated X1 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. Still, the Bavarians are notoriously conservative with these estimates, so we wouldn’t be surprised if it went faster on our test track. BMW has added a mechanical limited-slip differential to the front axle to help maximize power and improve cornering traction.
The X1 xDrive28i should get 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the roadway, according to the EPA. There are currently no EPA ratings available for the M35i model. 2024 BMW X1 M35i xDrive Release Date and Price
The base price of a 2024 BMW X1 M35i xDrive will be $49,900 (not including the $995 delivery and handling charge). Compared to the base pricing of an X1 xDrive28i, which is $39,100, that’s a sizable premium. The X1 M35i, on the other hand, takes only a fraction of a second less to reach 60 mph, has more standard equipment, and is outfitted with M-Specific components that might have earned it full-fat M classification not too long ago. The new flagship X1 will be sold in the United States in October 2023, with production beginning in Regensburg, Bavaria.
