2024 BMW X5 Redesign, Specs, Price

2024 BMW X5 Redesign, Specs, PriceThe 2024 BMW X5 strikes a happy medium between the Porsche Cayenne and the Genesis GV80, merging the best into a refined and comfortable crossover SUV. It’s immediately apparent that the X5 is aiming for a broad audience. BMW would only give you the option of picking between a twin-turbo V-8, a sleek inline-six, and a plug-in hybrid if it were a good option for you. Like other BMWs, the SUV’s interior is decked out in high-quality materials and integrated technology elements, including a sleek, curving digital display that runs nearly the length of the dashboard. This strategy yields a premium SUV that is so complete that its little flaws are easily forgiven; as a result, the X5 continues to be one of our favorite midsize crossovers.

BMW has modified the X5’s look for 2024 with a redesigned front grille and bumper, modernized headlights and taillights, and freshened wheel styles. The M60i is the flagship model, and it stands out from the crowd with its gloss-black accents, quad exhaust tips, and M emblem on the grille. The new 48-volt hybrid system helps the powerful turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 and the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 produces up to 375 more horsepower. The performance-oriented model has changed its moniker from M50i to M60i, but its 523 horsepower remains unchanged. The xDrive50e, a replacement for last year’s xDrive45e plug-in hybrid, boasts 94 more horsepower and ten additional miles of electric-only driving range for 483 horsepower and 40 miles of EV driving. BMW’s newest iDrive 8 software interface comes standard on all X5s, with an upcoming update to iDrive 8.5 planned for the summer of 2023. The new 7-series flagship luxury sedan’s hands-free Highway Assistant technology is also available in the X5.

2024 BMW X5 Redesign

The 2024 BMW X5 appearance is updated for 2024 and still appears modern. It has the classic BMW aesthetic without the divisive rabbit’s-tooth grille. Boxy may need improvement, but the X5’s spacious cabin and trunk compensate for its lack of swooping lines. The M60i’s new muscular front bumper contrasts with the six-cylinder car’s smooth lower maw and silver vertical grille slats. At the same time, the M Sport body kit, black mirror caps, and dark Shadowline exterior trim set it apart visually. These accessories are available as an upgrade for the base model 40i, making it look almost identical to the M60i. The standard wheel size across the lineup is 20 inches, with alternative measures of 21 and 22 inches. Power-folding side mirrors, a power liftgate, and LED headlights are standard on all X5s. Kidney grille illumination is discretionary. The M60i comes equipped with upgraded adaptive LED headlights that have blue highlights. All six-cylinder vehicles have twin tailpipes, whereas the M60i has four.

Only Alpine White is available at no extra charge for the 2024 BMW X5’s eight exterior colors (including the two base 40i trims and the PHEV). Mineral White, Carbon Black, Black Sapphire, Skyscraper Grey, Brooklyn Grey, Manhattan Green, and Blue Ridge Mountain are the seven metallics that may be purchased for $650. Except for Blue Ridge Mountain, all the colors above are available as extras on the M60i at no extra cost. Marina Bay Blue is included at no additional charge; Dravit Grey, Ametrin, and Tanzanite Blue II each cost $1,950; and the matte Frozen Pure Grey paint costs $3,600; these are the only metallic hues available for this trim.

The BMW X5, in comparison to competitors like the Mercedes GLE and Porsche Cayenne, is a midsize SUV. All X5s share the same 194.2-inch length, 78.9-inch width (not including mirrors), and 117.1-inch wheelbase. The PHEV is the tallest of the available trims, at 69.1 inches. The 40i has a ground clearance of 8.7 inches, whereas the M60i has 8.3 inches. The rear-wheel-drive sDrive40i weighs 4,919 pounds, while the all-wheel-drive xDrive40i tips the scales at 4,998. The lightest is the M60i at 5,355 pounds, while the heaviest is the PHEV xDrive50e at 5,573 pounds.

Interior

The 2024 BMW X5 cabin was refined until this year’s makeover, which moved the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and the 14.9-inch touchscreen to a new Curved Display in the upper half of the dashboard. The X5’s interior has been given a fresh, contemporary makeover. The air vents are narrower, and the horizontal concept continues in the satin aluminum trim strips that run the length of the car, both above and below the vents. The climate controls have been moved to the infotainment screen, which won’t win any popularity contests, so we recommend getting used to using voice instructions. The materials are of a high standard; however, the mood may be dampened by the availability of only gloomy hues. You have to squint a bit to see beyond all the supporting columns so a surround-view camera could be a good idea.

There is plenty of room in the front, with 39.8 inches of legroom and 40.8 inches of headroom, and the front seats are electrically adjustable in 16 different ways, so passengers of any size may find a good driving position. Both adults and taller children will be comfortable on the second row, which measures 37.4 and 38.7 inches. Although other competitors offer more legroom, this row is enough for comfort, even without the ability to slide or recline. There used to be a third row as an option, but it was too small for anyone but children or very short trips. BMW has discontinued this option without announcing it, and the X5 is now only available with seating for five people.

BMW X5 six-cylinder vehicles provide six-seat interior color schemes, with the first four using BMW’s Sensafin leatherette upholstery at no extra cost. The seats, center console, and center door panels are all depicted in the four theme colors—black, coffee, cognac, and Silverstone—while the rest of the interior is black. You can get Merino leather upholstery for $1,950, but you also have to buy a bunch of extra packages, so the final price is more like $5,250. Only the black/black and coffee/black color combinations are carried over from the original Merino leather color options. In contrast, black/Ivory White and black/Tartufo are brand-new color combinations. Thanks to the leather upgrade, the seatbelts and lower dashboard are also adorned in the theme color. Except for the multi-contour seats, which come standard on the M60i, the Merino leather option costs $1,950 without any additional fees, and the M60i is the only trim to offer a genuine leather dashboard for an additional $1,250. All six-cylinder vehicles come standard with Fineline Stripe Brown High Gloss Wood for the interior trim pieces, with the option of upgrading to Fineline Open Pore Wood, Fineline Black Wood, or Anthracite-Brown Poplar Matte Finish Wood at no extra cost. Fineline Black Wood is the standard exterior color for the M60i, and Carbon Fiber and Individual Piano Black Finish are available as expensive upgrade packages. For $650, upgrade from the cloth headliner that comes standard in all trims to one made of Alcantara.

The freight capacity in the BMW X5 is 33.9 cubic feet behind the second row, which is respectable but not as much as in a GV80 or Q7. When the second row is folded down, freight capacity increases to 72.3 cubic feet. This is a breeze to accomplish from behind or on the side. With 33.1/71.2 cu. Ft., the PHEV xDrive50e is only slightly smaller. Cargo space is limited; however, there is some room under the floor if you still need to get the space-saving spare wheel. There is a need for interior storage choices, with only the center console’s closed storage boxes being large enough to hold several water bottles. A wireless charging station is located in front of the center console, and there is also a glove compartment, door pockets, front and rear cupholders, and a trash can.

The X5 comes standard with a power panoramic tilting/sliding moonroof, a power tailgate, keyless go, adjustable multi-color ambient lighting, an electrically adjustable tilting/telescoping and leather-trimmed steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, heated and 16-way power front seats, leatherette upholstery, and a wireless charging pad. Infotainment

The old infotainment system has been replaced by iDrive 8, which can get software updates wirelessly from the net. In addition to the new 14.9-inch touchscreen, the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is now incorporated into a continuous-curving glass panel. It has ten speakers and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, 5G eSIM, cloud-based navigation, and more. A 464W Harman Kardon system with 16 speakers costs $875 and comes standard in the M60i, while a ten-channel Bowers & Wilkins system costs $3,400 and is available only in the M60i.

2024 BMW X5 Engine

2024 BMW X5 Engine

Engine

The 2024 BMW X5 has three engines, each tailored to a specific trim level. X5s with the sDrive40i or xDrive40i trim level have a 375-horsepower turbocharged inline-six engine. The 335-horsepower xDrive40i we drove before reached 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, so we anticipate a little extra pep from the more powerful version. The xDrive50e plug-in hybrid gets 483 horsepower from a turbocharged inline-six and an electric motor. Finally, the M60i’s twin-turbo V-8 generates 523 horsepower, allowing BMW to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Each engine is mated to an eight-speed automated transmission, providing plenty of muscle for almost any drive. This generation of BMW SUVs, including the X5, is distinguished by their smooth ride, solid handling, and responsive steering. It’s close, but the Audi Q7 is better than the BMW X5 in this regard. While the Mercedes-Benz GLE class struggles to maintain composure when cornering quickly, the BMW X5 responds predictably and rewards the driver.

BMW estimates that you can drive up to 40 miles on electric power alone with the xDrive50e’s standard 25.7 kWh battery pack. Without using the gas engine, the X5’s electric-only top speed is 84 miles per hour. The power pack may be recharged using a 110-volt or 220-volt household socket or at a public charging station.

However, the EPA has not yet provided fuel economy estimates for the plug-in hybrid xDrive50e, but both the rear-wheel drive sDrive40i and the all-wheel drive xDrive40i are rated at 23 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The EPA estimates that the M60i variant with the V-8 engine will achieve 17 city/22 highway mpg. When time permits, we will update this article with our highway fuel efficiency test results in a 2024 X5 at 75 mph. Check out the EPA’s site for specifics on the X5’s gas mileage.

2024 BMW X5 Release Date and Price

Prices for the 2024 BMW X5 range from $66,195 to $90,295. All-wheel drive is standard on the xDrive40i, xDrive50e, and xDrive M60i but not on the base sDrive40i variant. Since we value efficiency as much as top-notch performance, we recommend the xDrive40i as the best X5. It has the quick acceleration of a sports sedan and all-wheel drive, and it’s cheap compared to other vehicles in its class. It would help if you chose the Premium package for a head-up display, LED exterior lighting, a remote machine start, and a Harman/Kardon sound system. The BMW X5 will return in 2024 as a brand-new model, hitting showroom floors in June of that year.
