2024 BMW X7 Specs, Dimensions, Release Date

2024 BMW X7 Specs, Dimensions, Release DateThe BMW X7, a premium three-row SUV, is the best vehicle for transporting affluent families. The Bimmer may not have as much space in the back as the Jeep Grand Wagoneer or the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, but it drives better and has more powerful engine options. The highest-class, most powerful Alpina XB7 has 630 hp from its twin-turbo V-8, a series of engines that start with a 375-hp turbo-six. All cars have all-wheel drive and a plush, adjustable air suspension. The cabin of the 2024 X7 is quiet and relaxing, but it’s also loaded with high-end materials and cutting-edge technology, like a massive curved glass display on the dashboard. The X7 is one of the best large BMWs because it can tow a lot of weight and has a lot of active safety technology.

The 2024 BMW X7 is refreshed mid-cycle with a new front fascia, a larger digital instrument cluster, and BMW’s most up-to-date infotainment system. More amenities are standard on BMW’s most large SUV, and there’s also new technology to help the driver. BMW is the first manufacturer to provide 23-inch wheels. All-new motors and transmissions bring even more improvements to the X7. In the xDrive40i, the turbocharged six-cylinder engine produces 375 hp (an increase of 40) and 398 lb-ft of torque (up 67). The V-8 model’s terminology has been changed from M50i to M60i, and it now features a twin-turbo 4.4-liter engine and a 48-volt hybrid system. The top-of-the-line Alpina XB7 sports a configuration that is even more potent than the M60i, producing 630 horsepower.

2024 BMW X7 Redesign

When the X7 first came out, both the 40i xDrive and the M60i versions were met with some criticism. Like the original M3 and M4, initial reactions to the front end were adverse. The excellent information is that it’s not quite as horrible in reality. Yes, the nose is big and flashy, but the camera’s perspective might make it look even more exaggerated. The split headlights on the BMW and the M version pay more attention to how the car looks both make the SUV look dark.

The X7 is still a beautiful SUV, though. Even with the vast (and optional) 23-inch wheels, the car nevertheless looks proportionate. We were also informed that this is the first BMW to feature wheels of this size. Fortunately, the SUV’s ride quality isn’t affected by this, but we’ll get to that in a second.

In 2024, a brand new front and rear fascia will be introduced. In our opinion, the 40i trim is where these updates shine, especially with the chrome serving to break up the otherwise monotonous front end. The new 3D-effect taillights are accompanied by our favorite detail, a chrome bar. In the end, this is how the aesthetics will stand: It’s impossible to pass judgment on the X7 without seeing it in person.

If you’re not interested in the M60i’s unique M Marina Bay Blue metallic paint, BMW Individual’s other options should be more than adequate. The BMW X7 comes in 14 exterior colors, including the brand-new Sparkling Copper Grey Metallic. Except for the matte-finish Frozen Pure Grey, these are all metallic and include Ametrine (Red), Dravit Grey, Tanzanite Blue II, and Frozen Pure Grey. BMW offers 40 “off-menu” colors for the BMW Individual line, and you can get one of them by making a custom request.

Interior

The 2024 BMW X7 interior is highlighted by an expansive, somewhat curved digital display that serves as the primary instrument cluster. The instrument cluster measures 12.3 inches, while the infotainment system is operated by a touchscreen display measuring 14.9. Inside are several high-end amenities, such as heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a telescoping and tilting steering wheel, and mood lighting. However, the power-operated captain’s chair in the second row was a significant annoyance whenever we needed to make room for passengers entering or exiting the third row. Similarly, the narrow rear seats provide little legroom for tall people on long trips. The X7 has plenty of storage compartments on the inside so that nobody will grumble about that. We could only fit three small suitcases behind the third row, but 33 in total once we folded down the other seats.

With the latest iDrive eight software, the X7’s infotainment system is controlled principally via a 14.9-inch touchscreen in the curved glass panel above the dashboard. A big rotary knob in the center of the console and some gimmicky gesture controllers allow you to control the system. BMW’s Digital Key is standard on every X7. With the vehicle’s Wi-Fi hotspot (subscription required), the driver can access and operate many car features from afar using a mobile app. Wireless charging is standard, and an upgraded Harman/Kardon stereo is an extra cost.

Engine

The 2024 BMW X7 has two trim levels, each with its engine options (although both are AWD). The 40i comes first; it features a vintage BMW engine. A mild-hybrid inline-six engine with two turbochargers, generating 375 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. 40 more horsepower and 52 more pound-feet of torque than the previous year’s model. In all honesty, the engine is quite powerful. It’s also relatively quiet and provides consistent power up to the redline.

The BMW powertrain engineer we spoke to was as enthusiastic as a five-year-old when he described the motor’s 48V hybrid configuration on Christmas morning. The unit’s motor is housed inside the casing of the eight-speed transmission, which ZF manufactured. Everything an ingenious engineer might ask of is within its reach from that point of view. It can be used as a low-end torque filler or, under heavy acceleration, as a boost torque of up to 398 lb-ft. You must pull the left shift paddle for a full second to engage it. In other words, the “basic” model can accelerate to 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds. Additionally, the 48V system can improve the start-stop system, which is especially important in a high-end vehicle. Indeed, it does, to the point that the effect is barely visible.

Undoubtedly, the M60i’s new V8 will be the most talked-about upgrade. It has a 48-volt system and a turbocharged 4.4-liter engine. In 4.5 seconds, the M60i can reach 60 miles per hour thanks to its 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. The machine has a noticeable turbocharged tone, but the best note comes from within. At highway speeds, it is stately, with little noticeable turbo noise and a deep V8 thrum. The exterior noise isn’t as loud as the interior (BMW pipes noises in), but it sounds OK, and we don’t mind. This is the sound that every X7 should make when driven.

2024 BMW X7 Release Date and Price

The third quarter of 2024 is expected to be when the 2024 BMW X7 is made available to the public in the United States. The base xDrive40i variant of the 2024 BMW X7 will cost $77,850, while the top-of-the-line M60i, which replaces the discontinued M50i, will cost $103,100. The Alpina XB7, its successor, will presumably cost considerably more.
