2024 BMW Z4 Roadster Engine, Colors, RedesignThe roundel on the front of the BMW Z4 offers all you’d expect. As a luxury brand with a sporty bent, the Z4 does an excellent job of adhering to BMW’s specifications. A potential Porsche 718 Boxster buyer could give it another look because it’s elegant enough inside to compete with the Audi TT Roadster and Mercedes-Benz SLC. Even if the range is topped by the outstanding 382-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six that can hurl the M40i model to 60 mph in under four seconds, this doesn’t make it a Jack of all trades and master of none. There are certain drawbacks, like the Z4’s divisive design and the Z4’s lackluster steering feel compared to its Boxster counterpart. Even though the Z4 hasn’t transformed the market, it is still a speedy, energetic, and upscale roadster that BMW fans will like.

New features have been added to this year’s BMW Z4 Roadster. While wireless charging and ambient lighting are still available, they are now optional. Driving Assistance is no longer included in the Convenience or Premium packages but may be purchased separately from those bundles.

2024 BMW Z4 Roadster Redesign

The new Z4 Roadster’s form might be challenging to get used to. Its vast kidney grille evokes memories of the classic BMW Z8. Compared to the extended grille of the new 4 Series Coupe, this grille is more appealing. The Z4’s most attractive features are its short rump and well-integrated taillights in the back. Satin aluminum exterior trim is standard, as are LED headlights and daytime running lights on the basic model. The M40i adds Shadowline exterior styling, an aerodynamic package, and 18-inch M double-spoke wheels to the black soft-top roof. Both models come with two exhaust outlets, but the M Sport package on the M40i makes it look more aggressive.

Only Alpine White comes standard on the basic Z4, available in various colors for an additional fee. You can choose from six metallics for a total of $550, including Black Sapphire (pictured), Glacier Silver (pictured), Mineral White (pictured), and Mediterranean Blue (pictured), Misano (pictured), and San Francisco (pictured). Mineral White and Mediterranean Blue have been dropped from the Z4 M40i’s color options, but the fantastic Frozen Grey II Metallic has been added. Despite our admiration for the Misano Blue, the M Sport package must be purchased for an extra $1,500 to get it. However, this will cost you an additional $3,600.

Interior

The Z4’s interior is top-notch, as with all recent BMWs. In reality, its interior is among the best in its class. Exceptional panel fitting and well-placed controls round off this device’s luxurious look and feel. You’ll be well supported in your seat when you’re enjoying the Z4’s handling, thanks to the large bolsters. If you are taller than six feet, there is more room inside than you may anticipate. Its textile roof is thick and insulated, ensuring a tight seal. Because of the low wind and road noise levels, the BMW’s cabin nearly seems like a Grand Touring coupe when the top is up. It collapses in a matter of seconds at the touch of a button. A wind blocker is required to minimize buffeting even when the lid is down, and the wind blows hard.

There’s also a lot of room in the cabin for stowing things. In addition to the center console bin, the Z4 has a felt-lined nook to the left of the steering wheel for storing small items. In addition, there are two large cupholders in the front of the vehicle. The Z4’s trunk only holds ten cubic feet of cargo, but that’s enough for a weekend road trip for two people. The standard 10.3-inch touchscreen has navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity, although Android Auto is not supported. Easy-to-use and visually appealing, the newest version of BMW’s iDrive technology is a welcome addition. The Z4’s console may also be used to operate the system through a knob, buttons, and voice commands. A USB connector and Bluetooth audio streaming are essential features, but SiriusXM satellite radio is an add-on.

Engine

While both engines can propel the BMW Z4’s tiny drop-top body with vim, each has its distinct personality. In addition to the eight-speed automatic gearbox, paddle shifters, and launch control, the Z4’s basic sDrive30i has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder machine that delivers 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The M40i’s 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six produces 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque. The M-Sport differential is standard equipment on this model as well.

A powerful low-end pull comes from the basic engine, which boasts more torque and a better sound than the four-cylinder engines found in less expensive Porsche Boxsters. You can’t go wrong with the eight-speed gearbox, which has been hailed as the top transmission in the industry for its smoothness and quickness. The M40i is even more impressive in terms of sound and passing power. The Z4 may also be appreciated at slower speeds when driving in Comfort mode.

2024 BMW Z4 Roadster release date and price

In the United States, the four-cylinder BMW Z4 will cost $200 more in 2024 than it is now, but the six-cylinder model will remain at the exact starting MSRP. BMW’s pricing will cost $48,900 for the sDrive30i and $56,700 for the M40i. These prices do not include the $995 destination fee and several optional extras that could push the total cost of a BMW Z4 well into the tens of thousands of dollars.
