2025 BMW X3 Redesign, Specs, Price, and Release Date – Do small luxury SUVs replace conventional sports cars? Considering how well the 2025 BMW X3 negotiates turns, we’re tempted to say yes. The X3, based on the classic 4-door 3-series, combines the refined character and engaging handling of its inspiration with a more practical body type that can carry more baggage. The bottom model has a turbocharged four-cylinder producing 248 hp, while the M40i’s inline-six produces 382 hp. Both are very powerful, but the inline-six engine’s refined operation and increased muscle are particularly appealing. The X3’s styling is not overly flashy yet easily distinguishable as a high-end SUV. The neat and sophisticated interior design complements the car’s sleek exterior. Competitors like the Genesis GV70 and the Volvo XC60 may appeal more to those looking for flashier exterior styling. Despite its more subdued exterior, we approve of the X3’s emphasis on driving excitement.
BMW felt the popular X3 SUV was complete, as no alterations were made for the 2025 model year. The BMW X3 2025 costs between $47,895 and $62,895. Regardless of their specific horsepower ratings, all BMW engines share a robust and refined personality. The M40i’s 382-horsepower six-cylinder propels it to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, but the four-cylinder is more than adequate for most drivers. Together, the turbocharged four-cylinder and the superb eight-speed automatic make short work of traffic and allow for thrifty highway driving. The front wheels of the X3 sDrive30i are not powered. Sun Belt residents need not worry, but those in snowy regions should consider the xDrive30i’s all-wheel drive.
2025 BMW X3 Redesign
BMW’s leading models, such as the 3 Series and the 2025 BMW X3, tend to be less subject to artistic risk-taking, so the design revisions from the previous year didn’t come as a complete surprise. The X3’s sleek, refined appearance remains unchanged for the 2017 model year. The lighting signature within the rear taillight clusters is stunning at night, and the grille and slender LED headlights are skillfully constructed. Alloy wheels of 19 inches come standard on the base trim. Power-folding side mirrors, chrome exhaust pipes, a rear roof spoiler, and satin aluminum roof rails are all included. Intricately designed taillights with adjustable brake lights complement the full LED headlights. The M40i is more aggressive than the rest thanks to its aero kit, 19-inch M wheels, and Shadowline exterior styling. It also comes standard with a two-piece glass-panel panoramic sunroof, an option on the 30i. No unnecessary exterior options were installed on the Tanzanite Blue Metallic xDrive30i we tested. Straight out of the box, it’s a well-executed product that offers buyers sportiness and luxury without increasing prices.
The 2025 BMW X3 dimensions are standard for a luxury compact crossover, although it is longer and taller than the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. It is 66 inches in height, 74.4 inches in breadth, and 185.9 inches in length—the wheelbase measures 112.8 inches, a few inches shorter than the Mercedes competitor. The M40i is 7.4 inches wider than the 30i. The X3 sDrive30i has a curb weight of 4,079 pounds, whereas the X3 xDrive30i, with its heavier all-wheel-drive system, weighs 4,149 pounds. The M40i, the largest of the bunch, weighs 4,392 pounds.
The X3 comes in two standard colors—Alpine White and Jet Black—that do not affect the starting price. Carbon Black, Black Sapphire, Dark Graphite, Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Skyscraper Grey, and Brooklyn Grey are metallic colors that may be yours for an extra $650. Only the M Sport Package can be ordered with the Carbon Black or Brooklyn Grey exterior color options. The most expensive option is $1,500, covering two high-end hues: Tanzanite Blue II Metallic (as seen on our tester) and Aventurin Red Metallic. The M40i loses Jet Black from the color scheme but retains the rest of the original palette. The M40i can be outfitted with commemorative red brake calipers and a 50th anniversary BMW M emblem. This symbol, which features semicircles in the typical M hues of blue, dark blue, and red, will replace the ones on the car’s bonnet, trunk, and wheel hubs.
The X3’s attractive cabin is well-equipped, with features such as 10-way power-adjustable front seats with adjustable side bolsters. Seatbacks in the back can be reclined for the comfort of passengers, and all seats have sufficient padding for extended drives. Besides that, the X3’s interior is attractive and expertly assembled, with high-quality materials and few gaps between panels. Despite being made of plastic, the test vehicle’s glossy woodgrain trim looked and felt authentic, while the dash and door panels were upholstered in stitched faux leather for an added touch of class. Our evaluation of carry-on suitcases found the X3 to be about par for the course. There is space for seven bags behind the second row, plenty for everyone to have their plus two more, and twenty bags with the rear seats down. However, the Cadillac XT5 is the segment leader in freight capacity, so it should be a top contender for big transporters.
BMW’s iDrive interface has all the features expected of a high-end vehicle in this day and age. A 10.3-inch infotainment display with built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto is standard equipment. Optionally, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen can be installed. The only required entertainment features are Bluetooth phone connectivity, Wi-Fi, and a USB port; a second USB port and wireless smartphone charging are available as extras.
Both the rear-wheel-drive sDrive30i and the all-wheel-drive xDrive30i are equipped with a 248-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that provides adequate power for cruising in practically any traffic situation. The xDrive 30i took 6 seconds to reach 60 mph on our test track; a sDrive 30i model was unavailable for testing. We found that the Porsche Macan S and the Audi Q5 were faster than the Toyota RAV4. The Porsche was noticeably quicker. The X3 M40i is a far better option for those looking for a high-performance crossover. With its powerful 382-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine, the vehicle accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds. The X3 is more capable than some of BMW’s current sedans, and it’s a lot of fun to drive and surprisingly agile in turns for a crossover. However, it can’t compare to the Macan in terms of performance. The ride quality is well-balanced, providing just the right amount of stiffness for a sporting sensation without being too harsh over rough pavement. The adjustable suspension on our test vehicle was a fantastic extra. The xDrive30i now has Dynamic Damper Control, which provides the driver with Comfort, Sport, and Eco Pro settings. The chassis of the M40i can be lowered by 0.4 inches with the help of an adaptable M suspension.
When compared to its competitors, the X3 ranks in the middle when it comes to EPA ratings. However, in our real-world tests, the xDrive30i and the M40i exceeded their EPA fuel economy projections. Surprisingly, the M40i’s highway fuel efficiency (29 mpg) was only slightly lower than that of the xDrive30i’s (31 mpg) despite the latter’s greater horsepower. 2025 BMW X3 Release Date and Price
The 2025 BMW X3 prices range from $47,200 for the base sDrive30i to $48,200 for the top-of-the-line xDrive30i. The M40i, which is far more powerful, can be yours for $63,000. A $995 US destination fee is not included in any of these listed costs. When equipped with every available upgrade, the BMW X3 M40i will set you back more than $74,000. The newly 2025 BMW X3 will hit the market in June of 2025.
