However, now that M has released a CSL version of the M4 coupe to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary, enthusiasts are excitedly awaiting the arrival of the M3’s pinnacle version, the upcoming “Competition Sport” edition. BMW’s M3 CS, last seen in 2018, is the line’s pinnacle model. The hottest M3 sedan is becoming more of a mystery as just tidbits are released, placing it above the M3 Competition but below the M4 CSL. With the same engine as the M4 CSL, the M3 CS should be more agile and faster than previous M3 models. The new BMW M3 CS sedan will be the best-handling iteration of the M3, and it may finally be the version we’ve been waiting for since the start of the current generation. The CS moniker has a long and illustrious history, most recently appearing on the M2 and M5. The Audi RS5 Sportback and the Mercedes-AMG C63 Sedan are two of the standard M3’s key competitors, so it will be interesting to see if they can produce a worthy alternative.
In 2024, BMW will release a special edition M3 called the Edition 50 Jahre BMW M to commemorate 50 years of excellence in motorsports. Only 500 will be made available in the Americas, and they’ll come in five different “reimagined” versions of classic BMW M3 colors from the past five generations. As for the rest of the special edition M3’s exterior, you can expect matte gray alloys, a carbon fiber front splitter, quad carbon fiber-tipped tailpipes, and a carbon fiber roof. The BMW M3 CS 2024 will supposedly be much lighter than the M3 Competition because of its extensive use of carbon fiber in the body. There will be a carbon fiber roof, a carbon tailgate with a lip spoiler, and a redesigned front bumper with a spoiler based on the M4 CSL’s design. Based on the refreshed 3 Series, the redesigned headlights will sport yellow DRL signatures to match the M5 CS’s, and the dominating kidney grilles will have a new design inspired by the CSL. We anticipate front and rear wheels measuring 18 and 19 inches, with 19- and 20-inch options. We are open to the possibility of a different color scheme or style of wheels. Some paint schemes may only be available on specific models. The M3 CS’s custom bodywork should be refined with the last number, although it could raise the others significantly. The 2024 BMW M4 CSL weighs 3,650 pounds, around 340 pounds lighter than the 2022 M3 Competition. If we learn anything from the past, we might see pull straps replace conventional door handles.

What we do know about the cabin is that the BMW Curved Display and 8th-generation iDrive will be included as standard equipment in all BMW vehicles beginning in 2024. The CS will consist of a 14.9-inch infotainment screen with navigation and smartphone integration and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster display. Most estimates put the cost of a BMW M3 CS 2024 somewhere between $85,000 and $95,000. Given the expected low production run of the M3 CS and the beginning MSRP of the M3 and M4 Competition variants in the mid-$70k range, the premium is reasonable. The first version, M3 CS, was limited to 1,200 units, and we anticipate a similar number for the second iteration. An official date has yet to be set for the BMW M3 CS’s arrival in the United States, but we anticipate it will be sometime in the early spring of 2023. In March 2023, production is scheduled to begin.
