BMW X5 2024 Specs, Redesign, Release Date

BMW X5 2024 Specs, Redesign, Release DateThe 2024 BMW X5 stands out among crossovers because it combines speed and refinement in a way few others in its class can. The X5 has three different engine options; the base is a 335-horsepower turbocharged inline-six that runs smoothly. Regarding propulsion, a twin-turbo V-8 delivers 523 hp, while a plug-in hybrid system allows up to 30 miles of range on electric power alone. Although competitors like the Genesis GV80 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE class may offer a more opulent interior, the BMW X5 still gives off powerful premium vibes thanks to its handsome, well-tailored cabin. In addition, the X5’s handling is more endearing than that of its competitors, even if it’s not quite as sporty as the BMWs of the recent past, for which we long. Although actual performance vehicles like the Porsche Cayenne are more appealing to enthusiasts of the sport of driving, the quick and well-rounded X5 rates near the top of the class due to its general excellence.

The only changes for 2024 are several new packaging options. Even though gesture functions for the iDrive infotainment system are now standard, the X5’s Premium package still does not include them. The Executive Package is the same way, and it doesn’t include gesture functions either. In addition, BMW’s SensaTec animal-free faux-leather upholstery has been replaced by a new vegan faux-leather option dubbed Sensafin. In contrast, the posh Vernasca leather upholstery was removed as an option.

Large kidney grilles take center stage in the front of the X5, with Icon adaptive full-LED adaptive headlamps on either side. The front fenders house slim vents, and the front fog lamps are LED. Dual exhaust pipes emerge from the trunk, and fake diffusers and adaptive brake lights are in the box. Other standard features include roof rails, a panoramic moonroof, and 19-inch rims (except on the M50i, which rides on the 20s). In addition to 20-inch rims, we also stock 21- and 22-inch options. The M50i variant is distinguished by its exclusive M Sport body kit and Shadowline exterior trim. Only the red vertical grille slats and the red brake calipers pop against the black body of the limited-edition Black Vermilion. Black 22-inch aluminum wheels make it go. Arctic Grey Metallic was a $550 add-on when we picked up our X5 xDrive45e plug-in hybrid for a week. The M Sport Package was also installed, including things like staggered 21-inch rims and M Sport brakes, which cost an extra $5,500.

Its length is 194.3 inches, and its breadth is 78.9 inches, making the X5 a large SUV. The overall height is estimated to be 69 inches, and the length is 117.1 inches. The standard and the xDrive40i models have a starting curb weight of 4,828 pounds. The xDrive45e weighs 5,646 pounds, while the V8-powered M50i tips the scales at 5,260 pounds.

Standard on the basic model is just two colors: Alpine White and Jet Black; for $550 more, you can upgrade to any of eight metallic tones. There’s a new shade called Sparkling Brown, and the others include the tried-and-true Artic Grey Metallic and the more daring Carbon Black, Black Sapphire, Dark Graphite, Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, and Manhattan Green. If you want Carbon Black, you’ll have to pay an extra $5,250 for the M Sport option. However, standard metallic colors, including Carbon Black, are complimentary because the M50i model already comes with the M Sport package. Instead of Dark Graphite and Manhattan Green, you can spend $1,950 on the new Dravit Grey (which replaces Ametrin from last year) or the particular Tanzanite Blue II color.

Interior

The first and second rows of the BMW X5 2024 have plenty of room for adults, and the third seat is reserved for children. Once inside, passengers will find a cabin outfitted with premium materials, abundant electronic charging ports, and, based on the trim level selected, a plethora of opulent extras. The front chairs are powered and include a memory setting for the driver. All trim levels feature a tilt-and-telescoping power steering wheel, heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a power rear liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, and an array of programmable interior lighting options. The X5 can feel like a high-end luxury vehicle with the addition of expensive options like massaging seats, a remote start, soft-close doors, acoustic glass, a leather dashboard, heated front armrests, and a steering wheel. A diamond-domed speaker system from Bowers & Wilkins can be added as a pricey extra. The X5 has plenty of room for transporting goods. We could squeeze all eleven carry-on bags behind the second row of seats with no problem. We could fit 26 containers when we folded down the SUV’s rear seats, which can be done from either the side or the back. The GLE class performed just as well in this test as the X5, but its back seats are more difficult to fold down.

Two 12.3-inch screens modernize the cockpit’s minimal aesthetic. The other controls the newest iteration of BMW’s iDrive infotainment system, while the former serves as a digital gauge display, a feature that is becoming increasingly prevalent in luxury automobiles. The touchscreen and the rotary knob in the middle of the console are used for control. Both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come preinstalled as essential features.

Engine

Three unique engines are available for the BMW X5 2024, each paired with a specific trim level. Models of the X5, designated as sDrive40i or xDrive40i, are driven by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six that generates 335 horsepower. The xDrive45e plug-in hybrid’s 389 horsepower originates from its turbocharged inline-six and electric motor. On our test course, an X5 with that engine and transmission accelerated from zero to sixty miles per hour in 4.7 seconds. (We also tried the 40i; it reached 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.) The M50i’s twin-turbo V-8 generates 523 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. The three available engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and should satisfy the driver’s needs in all but extreme driving conditions. The X5’s steering is more connected and direct than the previous version, but it still needs to be what we’d call sporty. The ride quality is also much improved. It’s tight, but the Audi Q7 still edges out the BMW X5. However, if you throw the X5 into a sharp turn at high speed, it will hang on predictably and reward you with a level of control lacking in the GLE class. In addition, regardless of which motor you choose, the X5 can pull up to 7200 pounds.

According to the EPA, the X5’s inline-six engine is as frugal as the four-cylinder GLE class and slightly more so than the four-cylinder Q7. The EPA scores suffer greatly when the V-8 is installed. Although the 40i model achieved 28 mpg in our real-world highway fuel-economy testing, the M50i only achieved 20 mpg, two mpg less than its highway figure. The 45e plug-in hybrid achieved 46 MPGe in electric-only mode and 26 mpg combined. Check out the EPA’s webpage for specifics on the X5’s gas mileage.

The Black Vermilion limited edition, based on the xDrive40i, costs $82,300 with all the additional equipment, nearly as much as the X5 M50i, the fastest variant in the lineup. Especially noteworthy is the fact that a $7,500 federal tax refund is available for the xDrive 45e. We used the BMW X5 configurator to its maximum extent, arriving at a figure of over $105,000 (including destination) for a fully loaded model. The reborn BMW X5 will hit showrooms as a brand-new vehicle in June 2024.
