The New 2024 BMW X5 Specs, Models, Pricing – The segment of midsize luxury SUVs is filled with good options, but the 2024 BMW X5 stands out for a combination of performance and refinement that is lacking in many crossovers. A portion of the X5’s broad appeal is attributable to its trio of powertrains, which begins with a 335-horsepower turbocharged inline-six. A twin-turbo V-8 produces 523 horsepower, and an eco-friendly plug-in hybrid system delivers up to 30 miles of electric-only range. In terms of luxury, rivals such as the Genesis GV80 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-class surpass the BMW X5, yet the BMW’s attractive, well-tailored cabin nevertheless conveys great premium emotions. In addition, the X5’s handling is more engaging than its competitors, although it’s not nearly as sporty as BMWs of the recent past, for which we pine. Driving fans may choose a real performance player like the Porsche Cayenne, but the X5’s overall excellence places it near the top of its class.
Changes to the packaging are the only updates for 2024. The X5’s Premium Package now features a wireless smartphone charging station; however, gesture controls for the iDrive infotainment system are not included. Likewise, the Executive Package lacks gesture controls. Luxury Vernasca leather upholstery is no longer an option, and BMW’s animal-free SensaTec faux leather has been replaced by vegan Sensafin faux leather.

The New 2024 BMW X5 Redesign
Large kidney grilles flanked by Icon adaptive full-LED adaptive headlights dominate the X5’s front fascia look. In addition to LED fog lights, the front fenders feature narrow vents. The back of the car features adaptive brake lights, a fake diffuser, and two exhaust outlets. Roof rails and a panoramic sunroof are standard, as are 19-inch wheels on all models except the M50i, which rides in the 20s. There are also 21-inch and 22-inch wheels available.
Our X5 xDrive45e plug-in hybrid arrived for a week with the Arctic Grey Metallic paint option, which cost $550. Additionally, the M50i variant is equipped with an exclusive M Sport body kit and Shadowline exterior trim, giving it a more aggressive appearance. Except for the red vertical grille slats and the red brake calipers, all exterior trim and features on the limited-edition Black Vermilion are blacked out. It utilizes 22-inch black alloy wheels. It also had the $5,500 M Sport Package, which made it look better with things like staggered 21-inch wheels and M Sport brakes.
The X5 is a somewhat large SUV with measurements of 194.3 inches and 78.9 inches in width. The wheelbase is 117.1 inches long, while the height is 69 inches. The starting curb weight for the base model is 4,828 pounds, and for the xDrive40i, it is 4,863 pounds. The V8-powered M50i weighs at least 5,260 pounds, whereas the XDrive45e tips the scales at 5,644 pounds.
Alpine White and Jet Black are the best no-cost colors presented on the base model, but for an additional $550, you may select from one of eight metallic hues. These have Arctic Grey Metallic (our test color), Carbon Black, Black Sapphire, Dark Graphite, Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, and Manhattan Green, complementing Sparkling Brown’s new hue. Carbon Black needs the expansion of the M Sport package, resulting in a total price increase of $5,250. Jet Black is unavailable on the M50i, but regular metallic selections are accessible, as is Carbon Black, as this model already comes standard with the M Sport package. Instead of Dark Graphite and Manhattan Green, you get access to the rare colors Tanzanite Blue II and the new Dravit Grey (which replaces Ametrin from last year) for $1,950.

The New 2024 BMW X5 Interior
Interior
The first and second rows of the New 2024 BMW X5 provide ample space for adults, but the optional third row is reserved for children only. Once inside, passengers are treated to a cabin lined with high-quality materials, abundant device charging ports, and an abundance of luxury features depending on the extras selected. Standard features include power-adjustable front seats with memory for the driver. All models have a power-adjustable steering column, heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, a motorized rear liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and programmable ambient lighting. Adding expensive features such as massaging seats, remote start, soft-close doors, soundproof glass, a leather dashboard, and heated front armrests and steering wheel may make the BMW X5 feel like a high-end luxury SUV.
Regarding expensive alternatives, purchasers can opt for a Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound audio system with diamond-domed tweeters. The X5 has ample cargo room. We could stow 11 carry-on bags behind the second row of seats when the back seats were occupied. With the rear seats folding, which can be accomplished from the side or rear of the SUV, we could fit 26 cases. In our test, the GLE class was just as good as the X5, but its back seats are more brutal to put away.
Dual 12.3-inch monitors modernize the cockpit’s otherwise conservative appearance. One offers access to the infotainment system, powered by the most recent version of BMW’s iDrive software. The other acts as a digital gauge display, a feature that is becoming increasingly widespread among luxury automakers. Users can control the system via the touchscreen or the rotary knob located on the center console. Android Auto and CarPlay are both standards.

Engine
The New 2024 BMW X5 has three unique powertrains, each corresponding to a different model. X5s with the sDrive40i or xDrive40i badge is powered by a turbocharged inline-six engine producing 335 horsepower. This powerplant propelled an X5 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds on our test track. (We’ve also tested the 40i; it reached 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.) The XDrive45e plug-in hybrid has a turbocharged inline-six engine and an electric motor that produces a combined 389 horsepower.
Last but not least, the M50i’s twin-turbo V-8 with 523 horsepower allows it to reach 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Each of the three powertrains is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and none of them will leave drivers lacking power in almost any driving circumstance. The X5’s smooth ride and solid handling are significant improvements over the previous generation, as its steering feels more linked and precise but isn’t exactly sporty. The Audi Q7 still outperforms the BMW X5, but it’s a close contest. The X5 maintains its grip and rewards the driver with predictability absent in the GLE class. And if you need to tow, remember that the X5 has a maximum towing capacity of 7200 pounds, regardless of the engine you choose.
According to the EPA, the X5’s inline-six engine is as fuel-efficient as the four-cylinder version of the GLE-class and slightly more so than the four-cylinder Q7. With a V-8 engine, its EPA ratings are drastically reduced. Nevertheless, during our real-world highway fuel economy testing, only the 40i model beat its roadway rating with a score of 27 mpg; the M50i recorded 20 mpg, two mpg less than anticipated. The plug-in hybrid 45e achieved 46 MPGe on battery power alone and 26 MPG total. Please visit the EPA’s website to learn more about the X5’s fuel economy.
The New 2024 BMW X5 Price and Release Date
In 2024, the BMW X5 series will have five trim levels, with the base sDrive40i model starting at $59,400 before the $995 destination charge. The AWD xDrive40i model is slightly more expensive, having an MSRP of $61,700 in the United States. The hybrid model xDrive45e costs $63,700 before additional fees or potential incentives. Our test vehicle was equipped with extras totaling over $20,000, including the Driver’s Assistance Pro Package ($1,700), the primarily aesthetic M Sport Package ($5,500), and the Executive Package ($4,050). The total amount was $81,695, which included the $995 destination fee.
The 2024 BMW X5 is an all-new vehicle anticipated to sell in June 2024. The limited-edition Black Vermilion is based on the xDrive40i but costs $82,300 with all its additional equipment, nearly as much as the fastest model in the lineup, the X5 M50i, which has an MSRP of $88,800. Notably, the XDrive45e is eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit. We were able to max out the BMW X5 online configurator and arrive at a price of almost $105,000, including the destination.
Is The 2023 BMW X5 A Good SUV?
The 2024 X5 is a fantastic vehicle, but it is no longer the greatest of its kind. The SUV has potent engines, luxurious interior amenities, and plenty of room for eight passengers. However, some competitors offer similar features. The Porsche Cayenne excels in all these areas and is more fun to drive than the X5; the Genesis GV80 is a cut above in every respect and yet costs less than the X5.
However, the X5 needs to catch up to the well-equipped Genesis due to its absence of standard driver-aid systems. Not that we’re moaning about the options provided because they’re all top-notch, but there isn’t even a cheaper base model with a four-cylinder engine. The BMW X5 hybrid is a true PHEV with a respectable electric range, but the top-of-the-line V8 model delivers truly thunderous performance at a cost. Even so, the X5 is a rugged vehicle to resist.
